Marking of expiration dates of product in EAN-13+5 barcode symbolics
Dear participants of DiSAI system. We would like to inform you that some retailers are implementing the project for encoding of the product expiration dates in the EAN-13 bar code by adding an additional 5-digit code, in which will be coded the expiration date of this product.
The requirements for retail chains are as follows:
The main EAN-13 barcode will also be used on the product, but additionally to it will be provided 5-digit code, divided into 2 types:
For any product with an expire date of more than 72 hours, an additional 5 digits are used to indicate a calendar day (from 001 days to 365 days) of the expiration date of a particular product, and a calendar year in a 2-digit format. Example: bar code EAN13 + 04819, where the last 5 digits indicate the end of the expire date of the product (048 calendar day of 2019 in particular means, that the product is valid until 17.02.2019.)
For any product with an expire date of 72 hours or less, an additional 5 digits are used to indicate a calendar day (from 001 days to 365 days) of the expiration date of a particular product, and an hour of the end of production time. Example: bar code EAN13 + 04823, where the last 5 digits indicate the expire date of the product (048 calendar day 23:00 in particular means, that the product is valid until 17.02, 23:00)
Earlier in 2016, we have developed a program, with the help of which you would be able to create such a bar code, and here is its interface and description of work with it:
In order to generate the required EAN-13 + 5 barcode, in which will be encoded the product expiration date, you need to folow such steps:
Insert 12 digits of EAN-13 barcode in the field “Enter 12 digits of EAN-13 barcode”.
Select the category of the expire date of the product: either "more than 72 hours" or "72 hours or less".
Enter or select the product best before date.
In case, if the selected category is “more than 72 hours”, you need to proceed to the next action (5). In case, if was selected the category “72 hours or less”, you need to select the product best before hour.
Press the button “Generate barcode”, and after that the barcode image will be displayed in the upper right part of the program.
Press the button “Save barcode” and select a place to save it.
That's it, you have received the required EAN-13 + 5 barcode, in which is encoded the expiration date of the product. All the process is rather simple if to follow the steps.
